The Sunquick Atlantus
View(s):Thoroughbred Class I horse Atlantus who won all its three races competed in Sri Lanka became the Champion Horse of the April Season Horseracing Competitions 2014, after the final event, the Sunquick Cup. Atlantus, ridden by Indian jockey K. Anil and owned by Hasanga Jayaratne won the Sunquick Cup last Saturday, after clinching the prestigious 143rd Governor’s Cup title a week ago.
Gazaki, owned by Deepthika Jayakody won the Scan Jumbo Peanut Cup, the race for Thoroughbred Class II horses. Sandstorm, also owned by Deepthika Jayakody, won the Ovaltine Cup, the Thoroughbred Class III race. Nishara Jayaratne’s Beautiful Lankan won the Thoroughbred Class IV race for the Sunquick Orange Cup. Bolzano, who won the Mayor’s Cup a week ago, maintained its possession to give owner Irugalbandara the Sunquick Guava-Strawberry Cup, raced for Thoroughbred Class V horses. Legasi, owned by Ananda Bandara won the Sunquick Passion Fruit Cup for horses of Sri Lankan ¾ bred. Arundathie, a Sri Lankan ½ bred horse owned by Periyasamy won the Sunquick Fruit Cocktail Cup.
Besides Atlantus, who became the champion horse, Indian trainer Ranjit Shinde, who trained horses for the Mr. and Mrs. Rienzie Edwards Stable, won the champion trainer award. K. Anil, who rode the Jayaratne Stables into three straight wins, won the champion jockey award. – NA
