Ashan cleared to ride at Katukurunda
View(s):The Mt. Lavinia District Court issuing an enjoining order on Friday (May 9) suspended the six month ban imposed on racing driver Ashan Silva by the Sri Lanka Autosports Drivers Association (SLADA) and Motor Racing Association (MRA).
District Judge R.A.D.G.C. Ranawaka, considering Silva’s petition, which has named 17 individuals, officials of SLADA, MRA and Sri Lanka Automobile Sports as accused, granted the enjoining order which allows the aggrieved racing driver to compete for a period of 14 days. This will enable Silva to compete at the second leg of Sri Lanka Super Series 2014 which began at the Katukurunda Racing Circuit yesterday and scheduled to end today.
The Mt. Lavinia District Court will hear the case on May 23. Silva was handed a six month ban, a suspended suspension of three years in addition to a fine of Rs. 175,000 on seven charges SLADA and MRA following a protest lodged by veteran driver Dinesh Deheragoda. Deheragoda cited that Silva’s cars used for racing events ‘did not conform to specific rules and regulations of the motor racing governing body, Sri Lanka Automobile Sports’.
SLADA and MRA, who organised events that were involved with the protest, impounded the two racing cars used by Silva and on inspection it was revealed that both cars had diverged the specified technical limitations of the relevant classes.
After inspection SLADA and MRA have sent their reports to Sri Lanka Automobile Sports for further consideration, while handing the ban and fine to Silva.
