Thilina and Manil write back
View(s):On our last week’s article under the headline “Chamath and Lal to replace Manil and Thilina” the former executive committee member of the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) writes – “I am herewith enclosing a letter written to me by the AFC, which will show that I was removed on a proposal made by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka.
“The letter written by us was not a petition; it was signed by six persons, three of whom were Past Presidents of the Federation and the other three being a Vice President, a deputy secretary and an executive committee member. So it was wrong to say that it was a petition as it was a genuine letter, which was written with a copy to the Federation, which upto now the Federation has not responded to.
“I have been a member of the Federation for more than 35 years and a Senior Attorney-at-Law in Galle and I believe it is a democratic right to be able to constructively criticise the conduct of a President.”
Meanwhile Dr. Manil Fernando the other person involved in the same story has endorsed Thilina Panditharatne’s assertions and add: “I joined football because I genuinely loved the sport and thought I could contribute in some way to develop it in Sri Lanka by giving my time and effort. I have doubted my conviction and love towards the game in the recent past with all what has happened but my resolve and determination has only grown with everything.”
