A chance to view the best films from the SAARC region
View(s):The SAARC Cultural Centre will be once again be hosting the SAARC Film Festival from May 20 – 25 in Colombo. Given the success of the SAARC Film Festival in previous years, the Centre will once again showcase Feature and Short films of the region. Member countries have nominated some of their best Films from their countries and this will be a unique opportunity for the public to view some of the best films from the SAARC Region.
An award will be given to the Best Feature Film and Short Film – which will be adjudicated by an international jury drawn from Russia, Iran and Singapore. There will be also a special workshop organized by the Centre for film directors, producers, actors, actresses, and film enthusiasts.
Last year the Best Feature Film Award was given to India for the Film ‘Paan Singh Tomar’ directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia. The Silver Award went to Pakistan for the Film “Seedlings” directed by Mansoor Munjahid and Sri Lanka’s nomination of “Mouse”directed by Wasantha Moragoda won the bronze medal. The Award for the Best Documentary Film was given to Bhutan for the Film ” Cost of Climate Change” directed by Tshering Penjor.
