Sri Lanka Test cricketer Rangana Herath was felicitated by his alma mater Maliyadeva College Kurunegala recently. This felicitation ceremony was organised by The Old Boys Association of Maliyadeva College in recognition of his performances during the ICC Twenty20 World Cup which was held in Bangladesh in March this year.

Sri Lanka eventually won the final and clinched the Twenty/20 cup for the first time. Herath produced an outstanding spell of left arm spin bowling in their match against New Zealand and gave them a sensational 59 run win at Chittagong. His magical figure of 5 for 03 in 3.3 overs was the best individual bowling performance of this years tournament. Herath captained his school in 1997 and later turned out for Kurunegala Youth CC at club level.
