Land Rover Defender sales gain momentum in Sri Lanka
View(s):Despite the slowdown in automobile sales growth due to heavy taxes, the sale of Land Rover Defenders in Sri Lanka has gained momentum during the past few years, Sheran Fernando, Managing Director, SML Frontier Automotive, sole representative for Land Rover, revealed.
Mr. Fernando told the Business Times that the average sales per year are around 100 vehicles as the demand for jeeps is growing in the island.
In addition to the luxury automotive sector, another market segment that Land Rover dominates is that of the military, where it has been a partner for the past 50 years, he said adding that it has become ‘the vehicle of choice’ within the Sri Lankan military. The Defender evolved from the original Land Rover in 1990. Land Rovers Series have now sold in excess of two million units worldwide.
Available in five different body styles, the LXV is based on the standard Land Rover Defender which is equipped with the 2.2 litre diesel engines and six-speed manual transmission.
SML Frontier Automotive is offering customers a range of value-added services from its eco-showroom to workshop with latest diagnostic and service equipment, a fully-equipped body shop and a state of the art paint centre.
In addition, the company’s new state-of-the-art workshop is the epicentre for Land Rover’s after-sales service. This facility allows for on-line access to the manufacturer, where any technical issue can be referred to instantaneously. This in return strengthens spectrum of its services by ensuring wider spare parts coverage and faster spare parts delivery times, officials said.
