‘Fête de la Musique’ in Colombo

This unique musical event ‘Fête de La Musique’ began in France in 1982 on 21st of June as the first day of Summer and now this music festival is celebrated all over the world and every year professional and amateur musicians in France take to the streets and parks on this day to celebrate the arrival of Summer after a dismal Spring. It is free of charge and thousands and thousands of people flock to these parks and streets and performers embrace all kinds of music and nothing is out of place and it goes on the whole day.
For the past few years, Sri Lanka too has joined the world in celebrating ‘Fête de La Musique’. This year too, Alliance Française de COLOMBO, the main organizer of the event is calling all talented musicians to join the fun. This will be your chance to expose your hidden musical talents. It is open for everyone, amateurs, and professionals and there will be no age limit for the performances. You could sing in any language’ said a spokesperson from the Alliance.
‘Fête de La Musique’ is open for all individuals, School bands, Schools music clubs, Interact Clubs, Music Groups , Ballet Schools / Groups, Dancing Schools, Music Associations and for all professional musicians.
‘If you can sing, play any musical instrument, dance etc., this will be a big day for you. Pop, Jazz, Rap, Country & Western, Disco, Rock, Baila or anything in Music goes with the festival’ she explained.
Its ‘free of charge’ and the organisers Alliance Française de Colombo will provide with the venue, Sound Systems and also the backing music by Annesley and Super Chimes.
Individual or groups could bring their own instruments. There will also be many professional artistes who are billed to perform as guest artistes.
