HNB emerge champs for second successive year
View(s):Hatton National Bank retained the Lanka Cavaliers Six-a-side trophy for the second successive year when they defeated Colts CC by 15 runs in the final played at the BRC ground yesterday.
The high scoring final saw HNB taking first lease of the wicket make a formidable score of 96 for 1 with Saman Jayantha cracking an unbeaten 67 which incidentally was the highest score of the tournament.
Colts CC in their run chase despite a quick fire half ton from Jeewantha Kulatunga and useful knock of 29 coming from Sajith Fernando was able to muster a score of only 81.
Jeewantha Kulatunga who had a successful tournament with the bat was adjudged the best batsman while his team-mate Sajeewa de Silva took the best bowler’s prize.
The best fielder’s prize went to Army’s Nishantha Jayasinghe with Saman Jayantha’s unbeaten 67 earned him the man-of-the-final award while Sajith Fernando’s allround performance saw him being selected as the man-of-the-tournament. The 2nd Lanka Cavaliers Six-a-side cricket tournament saw 11 teams MCA, Colts CC, Old Bens SC, Olcott Schools, Navy SC, Army SC, Professional Cricket Umpires, defending champions HNB, Moratuwa Stars, Old Peterites SC and host Lanka Cavaliers vying for the title.
