Honda Trophy off with two hurricane tons
Two centurions emerged in the opening week-end of the 4th Stafford Motor Co. sponsored Honda Trophy-MCA Division ‘G’ 25-Over League Tournament, which got underway last weekend.
E.B. Creasy’s opening batsman, F. Ahamed carried his bat out with a lusty 100 not out in 82 balls inclusive of five sixes and 13 fours, against Brandix Essentials. But E.B. Creasy’s other nine batsmen, did not support Ahamed, managing only 38 runs among them, as they huffed and puffed to finish their 25 overs, scoring 138 for 9. Brandix waltzed their way to victory, posting 140 for 2 in just 11.2 overs. The second ton came off the bat of Yonesh Yomal, from Courtaulds Clothing who scored a whirlwind 124 in 72 balls, hitting eight sixes and 16 fours, which helped them to a 30-run win over Mt. Lavinia Hotel.
Debutants, Gummi Lanka made a memorable entrance to the tournament with a heart stopping one wicket, last ball win over Coats Thread. Gummi Lanka chasing a victory target of 157 runs in 25 overs needed five runs in the last over and their No. 10 batsman Amila Prasad (31 not out) smashed a boundary in the last ball to seal the win. – LR
