SLI’s new policies to cope with sudden illnesses while on the road
View(s):Sri Lanka Insurance (SLI) has tied up with a global emergency services company “Assist America” to assist their customers with emergency services during a sudden illness or accident during a long journey over 100 km away from their residences, officials said.
CEO of Sri Lanka Insurance Deepthi Lokuarachchi told a media conference on Tuesday that this unique emergency assistance service will be offered to all of their comprehensive ‘Motor Plus’ customers at a nominal annual fee of Rs.230.
These emergency services will facilitate emergency medical consultations with doctors, provide emergency medical evacuations, inland or abroad, assist in hospital admissions, and maintain regular communication with the hospital on the condition of customers, and convey information on the condition of the victims to the family, he disclosed.
This programme also includes care of minor children, interpreter and legal assistance, lost luggage and document assistance and return of mortal remains in case of tragic incidents, he added.
Mr. Lokuarachchi disclosed that Sri Lanka insurance has a 30 per cent market share in the motor insurance segment in a competitive environment. Assist America General Manager South East Asia Ron Estrella noted that they operate 24-hour operation centres worldwide to make necessary arrangements to take the person from the place where he or she made the emergency call to the centre, to a nearby hospital or a medical facility.
These operation centres are manned by experienced, multilingual emergency certified medical professionals and assistants, he added.
