Changing lanes
View(s):Almost half of the year has passed and this is an ideal time for us to take a look back and see if we are in line with the objectives we set out for ourselves at the beginning of the year. Like many years previously we would have encountered un-expected life events which would have thrown us somewhere off the target. I would like to take this opportunity to shed some light on these sudden occasions that may change the entire life of a person or a family in a matter of seconds.
It may be in the form of a natural disaster as history bears witness, it may be in the passing away of a family member, loss of a job and other financial downfalls of a similar kind. We live in a society where we come across at least one, if not many of these kinds of people who suddenly find themselves in need of help and assistance. Due to the competitive nature of society, we sometimes subconsciously rejoice at the downfall of others. We see it as an opportunity to further our gains and stabilize our positions and hold over certain things. It may be work related, family related and it could also be seen among friends. We see a lack of genuine concern for the wellbeing of others.
A conscious act of negativity towards another living being will not do anyone any good. It may seem like the proper thing to do at the moment but as time passes you will soon realise that what we get is what we put into this world. Take a minute to look around you, slow down the fast pace your life is moving at and try to walk in the shoes of the people around you. We need not make generous donations but we can be of some assistance by the simple act of lending an ear to someone.
Being there for people when they need someone to talk to and offer them some sort of comfort. The feeling of affecting someone’s life in that manner is truly a wonderful experience. It is priceless. Step forward, take the initiative, help someone get their life back on track.
