‘Oba Nathuwa oba Ekka’ to hit theatres in India
View(s):First Sri Lankan feature film to get a commercial release in India, Prasanna Vithanage’s latest film “Oba Nathuwa Oba Ekka” (With You, Without You – Piragu) which is still running on the international festival circuit to universal acclaim, will hit theatres in India on June 13. “Oba Nathuwa Oba Ekka” features national award winning Indian actress Anjali Patil and national award winning Sri Lankan stage actor Shyam Fernando in lead roles.
Indian distribution giant PVR is releasing this under the section Directors Rare and according to Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, JMD, PVR, ‘With You, Without You’ highlights a sensitive issue in the most touching way and we are sure that the audience will associate with the film, taking away the message that the director, Prasanna Vithanage has tried to convey.
Speaking about the film being released in India, he said “We are extremely pleased to announce the release of the Sri Lankan film,”
An adaptation of Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s novella, ‘The Meek One’, Indian film fans can enjoy ‘Oba Nathuwa Oba Ekka’ in Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai.
“Oba Nathuwa Oba Ekka” is a bilingual film (Sinhala/Tamil) which also stars Wasantha Moragoda and Maheshwari Ratnam. M.D. Mahindapala (Cinematographer), A. Sreekar Prasad (Editor), Lakshman Joseph De Saram (Music Composer), Tapas Nayak (Sound Designer) and Rob Nevis (Production Designer) have contributed to “Oba Nathuwa Oba Ekka”. Daminda D. Madawala is the assistant director and Ebert Wijesinghe handled the make-up. Kalpana Ariyawansa and Vindana Ariyawansa contributed as Line Producers.
A co-production between India and Sri Lanka, Lasantha Nawarathna and Mohamed Adamally produced “Oba Nathuwa Oba Ekka”. Rahul Roy, Iranthi Abeysinghe, Sunil Fonseka and Nadira Adamaly joined as the executive producers.
