Anand Pawar beats Dinuka Karunaratne to Men’s final
Cool as a cucumber, keeping the opponent at the net till he gives freedom to the Indian’s favourite shot – a thundering smash on to both flanks of the court, Anand Pawar scored a 2 sets to 1 victory over Sri Lanka’s Dinuka Karunaratne in the Men’s semi-finals of the Yonex Sunrise International Badminton tournament at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium courts yesterday.
Both players were trying to keep each other at the nets. The Indian made use of the ploy while Dinuka paid the penalty for not attacking and thus losing many opportunities of scoring.
Anand, always keen to change his pattern of play, didn’t give any chances to Dinuka. He dominated the first game at 21/12. Dinuka came back with a close 21/15 victory in the second but in the vital third set Anand had the lion’s share of chances over a tired looking Sri Lankan to finish the game with a 21/11 victory. It will be an Indian-Korean Singles final today when Anand meet Hyun Lee.
In the other Men’s semi-final Hyun Lee of Korea scored a 21/10, 16/21, 21/11 victory over H.S. Prannoy of India.
