‘Evolution’ by Old Joes Choir
View(s):‘Evolution’, a concert featuring the Old Joes choir, De Lanerolle Brothers, Soul Sounds and The Revelations will come alive on 27 June at the Lionel Wendt from 7.30pm. Evolution is organised by the Old Joes choir, a prominent choral group loved for their choral renditions of popular songs, in a bid to raise funds for their trip to the 8th World Choir Games, the Choir equivalent of the Olympics.
The Choir, consisting of 23 choristers and instrumentalists, is directed by Geethika Cooray, Eshantha Peiris, and Nicole Liyanage. Migara Luvis, Nishantha Warnakulasuriya and Jerome L. De Silva are also taking part in the effort in various capacities. Founded in 1997, the OJC is melded with an undying passion for music. Their repertoire of songs include the genres of Spiritual and Sacred Music and Barbershop, but they also do Classic Rock and Pop music.
This year, they are aiming to take part in the 8th World Choir Games which will be held in Riga, Latvia from the 9th – 13th of July. This will be the first time that The OJC will be competing in the World Choir Games and incidentally, they will be the only Sri Lankan and South Asian choir to compete this year. The two categories they will compete in are Sacred Music and Barbershop choir. The WCG will be held under the theme “Singing together brings nations together”, solidified by the fact that 489 choirs representing 61 countries will be taking part.
The tickets for the ‘Evolution’ are priced at Rs. 3,000, Rs. 2,000, Rs. 1,000, Rs.750 (balcony).
