HNB deposits Lemonade Trophy in Over-40 account
View(s):HNB led by Manoj Perera gained the MCA Over-40 Cricket ‘Sixes’ title, beating the defending Champions, Union Assurance PLC in the Final at the MCA grounds.
Union Assurance batting first put up a challenging 73 for 3 in 05-overs, riding on a 63 runs opening stand between Eric Upashantha (35 rtd. in 11 balls, inclusive of four sixes and a four) and Sanjaya Attanayake (26 in eight balls inclusive of two sixes and a four)
Union Assurance in their quest to retain the title, started off well when they got rid HNB’s hard hitting opener Saman Jayantha for one, with the score at six. The match turned on its head when Union Assurance Priyanka Jayanama, who bowled the 2nd over was hit for 34 runs, including four wides and a five, via a careless over throw.
HNB opener Nilantha Bopage, who was severe on Jayanama, retired scoring 31 runs in seven balls inclusive of three sixes and two fours. Sajeewa de Silva (22) and Wendell LaBrooy put the finishing touches for HNB in reaching the target scoring 74/1 in 3.5 overs.
