Up Stream tops 1,500 on Facebook
View(s):Just over six months after its launch, Sri Lankan social enterprise Up Stream already boasts access to more than 1,500 individuals via its Facebook page. A programme, which taps volunteers to train local national university students, making them more empoyable, Up Stream was first introduced in January 2014, with eight volunteers from a total of three distinct national universities.
Up Stream has also stated that its immediate, 2014 goal was to provide its services to the “Universities of Colombo, Moratuwa, Sri Jayawardenapura and Kelaniya as a beginning and its long term plans include the ambition of connecting with the entire network of national universities”.
To that end, the Up Stream page on Facebook also “serves as a valuable source of information. The Up Stream team works diligently to bring updates on career issues, tips to tackle interviews and work environments successfully, personality grooming and internship updates in Sri Lankan companies. This service has gained the abundant appreciation of its loyal fan base which is rapidly growing,- a fine reward and encouragement for its team endeavour”.
Additionally, Up Stream also recently revealed; “Starting this June, Up Stream has its course steered towards launching its flagship event – The Aspirant. This is the mentorship program of Up Stream scheduled to start in the first week of July 2014. Candidates chosen from a stringent process of interviews will be allocated to a program of one-on-one sessions with a mentor for a course of three months”.
It also noted; “The mentors of ‘The Aspirant’ comprise of more than 20 distinguished individuals heralded in the corporate world who have extended their valuable support to this cause. Up Stream believes that the close company of an individual who has reached the very level of professionalism that any career entrant aspires to reach is just the right dose of motivation for the latter. The online advertising program for this initiative has drawn many applications out of which mentees for the first season of the mentoring program have already been chosen and have been allocated personal mentors that suit their career aspirations”.
“With many campaigns aimed towards the growth of its audience, this effort upon print media is perceived with the hope of gaining the support of more individuals who will be potential contributors to the Up Stream cause as professional giants in the industry, well-wishers undergraduates as well as recent graduates seeking the Up Stream services and last but not the least the university community who would like to be a part of the Up Stream volunteer network,” added this social enterprise.
