The de Lanerolle Brothers need no introduction. They have toured the world, delighting audiences with their harmonies and love of stage performance. But come July 1, the brothers themselves are stepping onto a different level, when they take the stage with star soprano Sabina Cvilak.

“It’s an honour, pleasure and privilege to have such a high ranking soprano visiting Sri Lanka, and to sing with her,” says Ishan de Lanerolle. “It’s going to be a delight! We are so excited!”

And more than understandably so. Cvilak, 36, has travelled the globe, gracing prestigious stages in Europe, Asia, UK and the Americas, debuting lead roles in numerous operas, singing with the best orchestras and accompanying such stars as Placido Domingo and Andrea Bocelli. As Ishan points out, “she’s in a different league,” but when the de Lanerolles extended an invitation to perform together in Sri Lanka, Cvilak very graciously accepted. “It was overwhelming,” Ishan continues, “because she is one of those artists who can afford to have her own show anywhere in the world!”

A Sri Lankan audience will experience the grace and brilliance of Cvilak’s level of vocal performance for the first time, at the Kingsbury next week. The programme for the evening consists of two segments. The first half of the show will feature solos, duets and trios by Cvilak and the De Lanerolle brothers, accompanied on the piano by world famous musician Rohan de Silva. Classical lovers will be treated in this half to a (mostly operatic) repertoire composed by the likes of Mozart, Schubert and Puccini.

The second half of the programme will feature just the vocalists with lighter musical numbers taken from timeless Broadway hits such as Aspects of Love (“Love Changes Everything”), Les Miserables (“Bring Him Home”), Carousel (“You’ll Never Walk Alone”), and The Sound of Music (“Climb Every Mountain”), as well as classic pop songs such as “The Prayer” by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli. Some of Sri Lanka’s pint-sized vocal stars will also take the stage to perform “Tomorrow” from Annie.

Sponsors for the show include the Kingsbury Hotel, Sifani Jewellers and Chatham Luxury Watches. Dialog Axiata and Singer continue as the Brothers’ Platinum sponsors while Central Hospital and Maliban team up for this show as Gold sponsors.

Tickets priced at Rs 2,000, 3,000, 5,000, 7,500 and 10,000 are nearly sold out. Box plans are available at Commons and Park Street Mews.

Cocktails will be served at 7 p.m., while the musicians will take the stage soon after 8 p.m.
