SSC and Moratuwa SC set for the kill
The completion of the second day’s proceedings in the Under 23 Division One cricket saw SSC and Moratuwa SC ending the day in strong positions and was set for early wins against Ragama CC and CCC.
SSC had Ragama CC in trouble at SSC ground after skipper Sanka Ramesh and Kasun Madusanka cracked half tons to put their side on top with a valuable partnership of 87 runs for the ninth wicket enabling them to make 300.
This was after Binura Fernando and Madusanka shared eight wickets to wreck the Ragama CC innings to a low score of 127.
Ragama CC batting the second time with a deficit of 173 runs was struggling on 164 for 7 needing another nine runs with three wickets in hand to avoid an innings defeat.
Moratuwa SC having taken a first inning lead against CCC on day one has put themselves in line to record an outright win when played ended on the second day in the match played at the CCC ground.
Moratuwa SC resuming their second innings on the overnight score of 15 for 1 went on to make 188. CCC set a target of 281 runs for victory was struggling on 136 for 6 needing another 145 runs with four wickets left to save the match.
Bloomfield was made to struggle for their runs on day two by newcomers Negombo CC in the match played at Reid Avenue. Bloomfield was bowled out for 194 in reply to Negombo CC’s 246 giving them a first inning lead.
Air Force after being in a bad position of 135 for 5 at lunch against Tamil Union fought back to gain a first inning lead at P. Sara Stadium.
Dushan Vimukthi guided the Airmen with a fine knock of 131 which included 12 boundaries and seven towering sixes helping them recover to make 329 in reply to the home teams’ 294.
Lahiru Madusanka along with Tharindu Kaushal steered NCC to a first inning lead over Moors SC in the match played at Braybrooke
Place. Lahiru slammed a 134 inclusive of ten boundaries and seven sixes while Tharindu supported with a 52.
