At the Kandy meeting, Mr. Abeyagoonasekera congratulated all the members and explained the importance of youth connecting with the rest of the world as two thirds of the world population is below 30 years. He said there is a need to recognise the youth who are ready to improve their society and make the world a better place, and Global Shapers is a great platform for the Kandy youth to work with rest of the world. Prof. Amarasekera said youth can play an important role to find solutions for the problems the society is facing today specially by connecting with other youth around the world.
The Global Shapers Community is a network of city-based Hubs developed and led by young leaders between the age group of 20 and 30 who are committed to develop their leadership potential towards serving society. Through this Shapers are provided with opportunities to connect with the worldwide network of Global Shapers, to network with other World Economic Forum communities, and to represent the voice of youth at World Economic Forum events.
