Mobitel hosts 3,000-person Google I/O Extended in SL
View(s):Sri Lanka’s Mobitel recently hosted its second Google I/O Extended event, featuring the participation of an audience of 3,000 made up of IT industry leaders and professionals, developers, university students, etc. This was in comparison to last year’s conference, which witnessed about 1,000 attendees.
According to a statement by the local celco, the event included “four streaming sessions aired live from the main event held in San Francisco USA, along with interactive sessions by local speakers and an intensely competitive hackathon which ran in parallel where developers were offered an opportunity to showcase their developing talents… Google I/O featured highly technical, in-depth sessions focused on building web, mobile, and enterprise applications with Google and open web technologies such as Android, Chrome, Chrome OS, Google APIs, Google Web Toolkit, and App Engine”.
The statement also indicated that the US-based Google I/O event was an “annual developer-focused conference held by Google in San Francisco USA, featuring a wide range of Google related technologies, including information on new products and important upgrades to existing products. Since the participation for the main event in USA is strictly limited, I/O events have been extended to other geographies across the globe for the benefit of developers from other countries. The Google I/O Extended Sri Lanka 2014 was held at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute from 7pm (25th June) till 6am (26th June)”.
