A trip I will never forget

It was a Sunday. My father had decided to take us to the zoo. We were very happy. At the counter, my father bought five tickets.
First we saw the birds. There were lots of beautiful birds. I tried to read their names. There were nice peacocks and even white peacocks. Then we visited the snakes. There was a long python. I felt very scared. The short snakes were also scary. When we went to see the crocodiles, we went on a bridge. It felt like we would fall.

At the zoo we saw lots of animals. The monkeys were very funny. The tigers were roaring. Some lions were in a den. There were both innocent and dangerous animals. After eating ice-creams, we went to see the elephant dance. There we enjoyed ourselves very much. The baby elephants were cute.
As it was getting darker, we had to leave the zoo. It was an enjoyable day.

A wonderful place in Sri Lanka

There are wonderful places in Sri Lanka. One wonderful place is Sigiriya. It is known as the eighth wonder of the world. It was made by the great King Kashyapa.
He constructed this palace to be hidden from his enemies. The water garden and the Sigiri frescoes are really beautiful.

According to history, we are told that we have to enter the palace through the mouth of a lion. We could believe that because the paws of the lion are still there. The miniature water gardens, the mirror wall, the image house and the octagon pond are more wonders found at Sigiriya. The height of it is 371m. Many foreigners come to see this great wonder. I am lucky to have visited this historical place in Sri Lanka.

A Get-Well wish for my teacher

A few days ago, our class teacher  Mrs. Sherine Perera didn’t come to school. Our Grade One teacher took our class during that week. She told us that our teacher had had a fall and hurt herself.

The following week when she came to class, she had a plaster around her arm. We were worried and we asked her what happened. She told us that she accidentally fell and fractured her arm. We felt really sorry for her. All the children wished that she would get well soon.

When I go to school next Monday, I will take her some flowers for my teacher as I want to wish her a speedy recovery and good health.

I am a parrot

I am a parrot. I have green feathers and a red beak. I have two beautiful wings but I cannot fly as I am in a cage. I don’t have my freedom to eat the things I like and I don’t have any freedom to enjoy my life.

When I was a small parrot, I was in my nest with my brothers. Suddenly a pussy cat climbed on the tree. He caught me in his big mouth and ran away. While he was running, Mrs. Perera the owner of the house saved me. But one of my wings was bleeding. However she and her family members cared for me kindly. But when I got better they put me into a cage.

Now I am like a prisoner. Mrs. Perera and her family supply me with tasty seeds and fruits but I don’t like to eat them. My friends come to the garden and watch me. I would like to spend my life with them free and happy.

Spring is here
Spring is here,
Birds are tweeting,
Grass is green,
And golden daffodils are swaying,
Bees are humming,
caterpillars are sunning,
Oh what a great time of year.

The lambs are born,
The sun is glittering,
Children are playing at the park,
The days get longer,
Animals wake up,
Nothing’s better than spring.

Flowers start to bloom,
Plants shoot start to grow,
Days get sunny and warm,
Birds build their nests,
And chicks start to hatch and cheep,
This is the time of spring.

Morning
Moon goes home. The sun rises. Cocks crow. The sky is clear and blue. People go for their work and children go to school. We breathe clean air.
The butterflies flit from flower to flower. The flowers are full of nectar. The
butterflies are very happy. The birds sing. Dewdrops fall on the grass. Morning is very beautiful and lovely.

Last month we went on an  educational tour to Colombo.
We went by a private coach. There were 50 students and five teachers for this tour. We left Gelioya at about 5.30 a.m.
We stopped at Nittambuwa to have our breakfast. After having our breakfast we proceeded to Colombo. We could reach Colombo at about

First we went to the Museum. There we saw many ancient things of historical importance. Our teachers explained about these things.
After that we went to the Viharamahadevi Park. We had our lunch there. After lunch we rested for some time. At about 2 p.m., we went to the Planetarium. There we were able to gain knowledge about the Solar System.
At about 6 p.m., we started our return journey. We could reach Gelioya at about 10 p.m. We will never forget this enjoyable tour.

Trees are our friends
Trees are everywhere. They give us shelter, food, medicine and timber. Trees give us many things but expect nothing. We should protect trees. If we protect them, they will protect us.
When trees give us many things, we can call them friends. Friends are helpful.
We cannot live without friends. So we
cannot live without trees.

Poson Festival
Poson is a religious festival. It falls in June. Buddhists in Sri Lanka  celebrate this festival.
It is very important to Sri Lankan Buddhists because Arahath Mihindu Maha Thero brought Buddhism to Sri Lanka.
On this Poya day we observe sil. We go to  temple and offer flowers to Lord Buddha. We make lanterns. We decorate our houses with colourful bulbs. We exhibit pandols. We give dansal. We go on pilgrimages. Poson is very important.
