Kandy shop owner says threatened by security firm bodyguards
View(s):AA group claiming to be associated with a well known politically-linked family in Kandy has allegedly threatened the owner of a clothing store in Kandy and demanded that they immediately vacate the shop.
The group of four had entered the shop and threatened the owners with death if the building on the Kandy-Peradeniya road was not returned to its landlord.
The owner of the outlet C. Karunaratne lodged a complaint at the Kandy Police that his wife was threatened by the group who claimed they were bodyguards of a security firm managing director, who is the brother of two politicians.
Mr. Karunaratne informed the Police Emergency Service that he subsequently got a phone call from the person claiming to be the managing director, who ordered Mr. Karunaratne to leave the place and said his two children would be killed if he did not.
Police said that investigations were underway after a complaint was lodged.
However, Mr. Karunaratna said he was not satisified with the police response. He said CCTV footage of the persons calling over at the shop were available. (SS)
