Typhoons mark the highest score of the day

The second tournament of the ‘Carlton Super Sevens Rugby Tournament 2014’ commenced at the D. A. Rajapaksa stadium Beliatte at 10.00am last morning.

After the end of first day Northern Gladiators lead the Pool B points table with 12 points while North Central Typhoons lead Pool A with 10 points.

The North Central Typhoons, Western Warriors, Central Kings, Uva Vipers and Sabaragamuwa Stallions made up pool A while Northern Gladiators, North Western Blacks, Eastern Eagles, Southern Sharks and Jaffna Challengers made up pool B.

North Central Typhoons defeated Uva Vipers 28-14, Northern Gladiators defeated Southern Sharks 26-19 and North Western Blacks defeated Eastern Eagles 19-12 while Western Warriors led by Yoshitha Rajapaksa held Central Kings led by younger sibling Rohitha to a 19-all draw in the first session of the second leg.

In a good come back Uva Vipers led by Shehan Pathirana defeated Sabaragamuwa Stallions by 27-14 while Central Kings outclassed the Kurunegala leg champs North Central Typhoons 19-nil. Jaffna Challengers led by Saliya Kumara defeated Southern Sharks 17-12 while Northern Gladiators led by Sri Lanka skipper Fazil Marija overcame Eastern Eagles by a healthy margin 26-nil in the second session of the morning.

The Western Warriors registered their first win of the day defeating Sabaragamuwa Stallions 26-24 after a close battle.

Uva Vipers registered their second win of the day defeating Central Kings 19-14. Central Kings led 14-12 at halftime. North Western Blacks registered their second win of the day defeating Jaffna Challengers 26-14. Southern Sharks led by Dinusha Chathuranga registered their first win of the day defeating Eastern Eagles 24-nil in the last game of the third session. However Western Warriors lost their winning touch as they succumbed to a 5-19 defeat at the hands of North Central Typhoons.

North Central Typhoons skipper Anurddha Wilwara became the highest try-scorer on day one after posting seven tries.
