Softlogic targets 50,000 retailers for Panasonic by March 2016
View(s):Local diversified conglomerate Softlogic plans to expand its existing Sri Lankan distribution network for Panasonic batteries and light bulbs by adding “25 regional distributors and covering 50,000 retailers island wide by March 2016″, the company said.
The announcement also highlighted the local launch of “three types of dry-cell batteries – manganese battery, alkaline battery, and ‘eneloop’ rechargeable battery – and two kinds of light bulbs – Compact Fluorescent Lamp (CFL) bulb and Light-Emitting Diode (LED) bulb”. “With high economic growth potential, Sri Lanka is one of the company’s strategic markets. Panasonic aims to provide effective and eco lighting products and solutions for the community here. The ‘eneloop’ rechargeable battery for example, can be reused up to 2,100 times and maintain 65 per cent charging capacity after five years. We hope that such green technology and products can add value to customers’ lifestyles,” commented Masahiko Sora, General Manager of Battery Global Consumer Marketing and Sales at the Panasonic Corporation.
The statement also noted that the “Panasonic CFL bulb which is designed and engineered to last up to 10,000 hours or 7 years, can save about 80 per cent of energy compared to conventional incandescent lamp. The Panasonic LED bulb is equipped with energy efficient technology, achieving 86 per cent more energy savings. This makes it among the industry’s most energy efficient, lightest and most compact bulb. With two key technologies, optimal design and high heat dissipation, Panasonic LED bulb can last up to 25 years”.
Adding to this, Amila Silva, Head of Battery and Lighting Division at Softlogic, stated, “[here] in Sri Lanka, Panasonic is viewed as a premium brand for consumer durables. It is endorsed by 13 well-established distributors and is well on its way to attain SLS Mark for its Compact Fluorescent Lamp bulbs. Softlogic is looking forward to continue its strong partnership with Panasonic towards achieving number one market share in the dry-cell battery and light bulb categories in Sri Lanka”.
