Amendment to Prescription Ordinance in the House next week

View(s):

An amendment to the Prescription Ordinance will be taken up for debate in Parliament on July 24.

The amendment seeks to enable those who were displaced during the 30-year-war to reclaim their properties they were forced to abandon.

The Bill seeks to provide relief to people who were displaced during the war and are unable to reclaim their properties due to the restrictions in place due to provisions of the Prescription Ordinance.

The Prescription Ordinance at present provides for a person holding continuous possession of a property for ten years without challenge the entitlement to ownership of that property but the amendment seeks to remove that limit.

The new law will cover the time period between May 1, 1983 and December 31, 2012 .
