The Supreme Court has refused a special-leave-to-appeal petition filed by two death row inmages convicted of killing a garment factory executive in 2004, and affirmed the rulings of the Colombo High Court and the Court of Appeal. The Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice Mohan Pieris, and Justices K Sripavan and P Jayawardena refused permission when it took up the special leave to appeal petition filed by the two convicts.

The two accused — Tuan Tony Ramalan alias Kamal Priyadarshana and Hinidume Virajanthan — murdered Sujeewa Perera, a finance controller at Bodyline Garments in Horana, as he was approaching his house at Homagama in his company car. The two killers got away in the car after killing him.
Police arrested the two killers together with the stolen car at a rest house.

They were identified by Mr. Perera’s widow, an eyewitness to the murder, at the Colombo High Court trial.  The court found them guilty and sentenced them to death. They appealed to the Court of Appeal but the appellate court upheld the High Court ruling.  Deputy Solicitor General Yasantha Kodagoda appeared for the Attorney General and Anil Silva PC appeared for the convicts.
