Krishan Maduranga the only centurion
New- comers, Heshan Flex ended their quota of league matches on a winning note, beating United Tractor Equipment by 23 runs, thus taking the top spot in Group ‘A’, while unbeaten, Brandix finished on a losing note, beaten by Mt. Lavinia Hotel by 42 runs, in the ongoing 4th Stafford Motor Co., sponsored, “Honda” trophy, MCA Division ‘G’ 25-Over League Tournament, continued last weekend.
Brandix despite their loss ended on top of Group ‘G’. As the group stage came to a close, the other six group leaders were Amana Bank (Group B), Nippon Paint (Group C), Citi Bank NA (Group D), LB Finance ‘B’ (Group E), Lankem Ceylon (Group F) and Star Lanka Shipping (Group H).
Weekend’s batting honours went to the only centurion, Krishan Maduranga from Courtaulds Clothing, who hit an aggressive 116 not
out, in 43 balls, inclusive of nine sixes and twelve fours against Ultra-Tech; helped Courtaulds for a comfortable win by 123 runs; and the bowling spotlight fell on Hirdaramani’s, medium pacer, R. Panagoda who snapped up 6 for 17, but his effort went a begging, as Coats Thread sewed them up by 43 runs.
The first four matches of the second round were scheduled to be played yesterday were at the MCA Grounds/Morning: Heshan Flex vs. Assetline Leasing and in the afternoon Amana Bank vs CIC. At Ananda Mawatha Nippon Paint took on Vallible Finance in the morning while in the afternoon Citi Bank played against Toll Global.
Today at the MCA grounds LB Finance ‘B’ will meet Hirdaramani’s in the morning followed by the afternoon game between Lankem Ceylon and DSI. The remaining two game will be played at Ananda Mawatha with Brandix taking on NTB ‘B’ in the morning and Star Lanka Shipping meeting Jetwing Travels in the afternoon.
