Niloo Jayatilleke wins Ladies Stroke Play
Niloo Jayatilleke won the Mackwoods Sri Lanka Ladies Stroke Play Championship which ended at the Royal Colombo Golf Club last Wednesday. This was the third time Jayatilleke won the three-day foremost stroke play championship for ladies in Sri Lanka.
A total of 23 participants competed this year, with four ladies debuting from Diyathalawa Golf Club, a club with a history of 60 years belonging to Sri Lanka Army. Jayatilleke played steady golf throughout three rounds to easily beat Kishani Vethavinayakam by 10 shots.
The Bronze Gross Prize, which is for the Nett Winner with a Handicap of 31 and above, was won by Niranjalie Amarasooriya with a Nett score of 294. In second place was Shirani Buffin on 299. A notable performance of the competition was by 13-year-old Tania Balasuriya from Royal Colombo Golf Club who finished fourth in the Mackwoods Challenge Trophy.
In the Daily Consolation Prizes for each round, the winners, Sandya Kumari from Victoria became the first round winner while the second round was claimed by Iman Sangani. The third round winner was Sven Selvaratnam of RCGC.
Jayatilleke also won the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club Challenge Trophy, which is for the best Nett Score over three rounds. She tied with Amarasooriya, but won as she had a better last round. This championship has been sponsored by Mackwoods for the last 40 years.
