Sportec SC rout Old Thomians SC by 252 runs
Sportec Sports Club routed the Old Thomian Sports Club (Matara) by a mammoth 252 runs in the opening game of the inter club division III cricket tournament organised by the Matara District Cricket Association. The match was played at the Senanayake grounds in Weligama.
Nine teams namely, Sportec SC, Deniyaya Planters SC, Old Thomian SC (Matara), Weligama SC, Rahula SC, Police SC, Prison SC, Old Servatian SC, and The University of Ruhuna SC have entered this year’s tournament.
Sportec batting first scored 287 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their allotment of 49 overs. Supun Jayasuriya scored 90 runs with seven boundaries and seven sixes while Nisal Nadeepa chipped in with 40 runs. H W Tharindu and Lakintha Gamage captured two wickets each. New Young Sports Club Gandara which was denied entry to the tournament are fielding their team under the Old Thomian SC were routed for 35 runs in 17.4 overs.
Spinners Priyantha Uyanahewa and Yasiru Hewanadugala captured three wickets each.
