Adult movies, loud music in private buses to stop
View(s):Film scenes with persons inappropriately dressed and unacceptable language used, screened in private buses will be stopped with immediate effect, the Private Transport Ministry has decided.For this, the Transport Ministry backed by police, will conduct checks on “inappropriate” films being screened in private buses and take action against the drivers or bus owners.
Minster of Private Transport Services C.B. Rathnayake told the Sunday Times that some of the private bus drivers are screening films that border on adult films.
Mr. Rathnayake said that most private buses put musical shows which show scantily dressed women dancing and musicians using inappropriate language.
He said that parents and children undergo difficulties when such videos are played, both in short and long distance buses.
He said that he had ordered the Transport Commission to look into the matter.
“There is a recommended sound limit of 80 decibels inside and outside buses, yet drivers are known to exceed it,” he said
He said that the Police, Transport Board and checking officials of Private Bus Transport Authority (Omnibus authority) will hold joint operations.
He said that drivers found playing such videos will be advised and if it continues, their permit and licence would get canceled or legal action taken.
He said buses would be raided and also complaints of passengers followed up to track down the buses.
National Transport Commission Chairman, Renuka Perera said that they are monitoring buses that show inappropriate videos and play loud music.
He said they would speak to persons in the film industry, professionals and academics to decide on the type of films that could be screened in buses.
