SLRFU Division 2 Inter-Club Sevens
View(s):

With an early blitz and unrelenting pressure, Gampaha RFC pushed ahead of Army Four Wings by 10 points (2 tries) to 5 (1 try) to book a place in the Cup quarter-finals of the SLRFU Division 2 Inter-Club Sevens, following action at Havelock Park yesterday.

Gampaha slit through their opponents’ defensive ranks twice within the opening five minutes, confounding them with their superior movement and passing to put over two unconverted tries. Army Four Wings were able to strike back on the brink of halftime through a try of their own but could pose no major threat thereafter as the match settled into a tepid pace.

It was Gampaha’s second victory of the competition after they inflicted a 21-5 drubbing over Galle Maroons, booking them a meeting with Sea Horse in one of eight Cup quarter-final games which will be contested today at Havelock Park, starting from 9.00 a.m.
The other matches will be played between Wave Riders and Field Force Youth, STF A and the Army Dragons and the Blue Whales and the Army Highlanders.

The teams that will contest today’s Plate quarter-finals are: Army Four Wings, Peterson SC, Army Archers SC, the Black Hawks, Sri Lanka Youth A, Old Bens, Wariyapola RFC and Panadura RFC.

Meanwhile, STF B, Kurunegala, SLIIT, Lourdes, Old Mudaliyans and Galle Maroons will feature in the day’s Plate fixtures.

Some of yesterday’s most dominant performances came from STF A, the Dragons, Sea Horse and Wave Riders

STF A launched two fierce offensive barrages, the first one ripping apart Lourdes RFC 33-0 while the second, which yielded the same score line, sank the Black Hawks. The Dragons came up with the day’s highest scoring effort as they recorded a 37-0 win over SLIIT while Sea Horse and the Wave Riders were just as imperious when they vanquished Panadura RFC (36-0) and Peterson SC (29-0) respectively.
