A mobile phone has debuted recently with claims of being the fastest smartphone available in Sri Lanka presently, while also featuring the first “Octa-Core” chip sold locally.

This device, the E-tel ‘Curiosity O9′, which comprises a MediaTeck 1.7 GHz “Octa-Core” Processor, and runs Android 4.2 ‘Jelly Bean’, is being offered by its local agent Brantel. Further, it has been noted that the E-tel brand is available in 2,000 outlet island-wide.

At the same time, according to the smartphone’s launch announcement, the device is also “HSPA and Wi-Fi/Wi-Fi Hotspot enabled, and has a 5-inch 16M colour full touch High Definition IPS display. With 1MB RAM and 4MB ROM, an 8MP auto focus back camera with flash, geo-tagging and face detection, a 3MP front camera, an external memory slot that can accommodate up to 32GB and Video and Skype calling facility, the O9 is fully-loaded with every feature offered by top global smartphone brands”.The announcement also signalled that E-tel was the “only brand present in the top three of both the Feature phone and Smartphone segments in the local market, according to the market intelligence and advisory firm CyberMedia Research (CMR)… Named after the Curiosity rover sent to Mars, the E-tel smartphone range sold in Sri Lanka now comprises the Curiosity i4, i5c, i6 and i7c series, the Curiosity N3 released in early March 2014 and the Curiosity O9 released in late July 2014″.

“Brantel is proud to once again lead the way in introducing a new benchmark in smartphone performance with the E-tel Curiosity O9… As with its predecessor, the Quad Core Curiosity N3, we expect the new phone to fly off the shelves, significantly widening the use of state-of-the-art smartphone technology in Sri Lanka,” commented Bishri Latiff, the local agent’s Chief Executive.
