Cinema events at the Foundation
View(s):Digital Film Academy of Sri Lanka Foundation conducts a series of events related to cinema under the guidance of award winning filmmaker Sudath Mahadivulwewa. The events will be held at the auditorium of Sri Lanka Foundation at no 100, Sri Lankan Foundation Mawatha, Independent Square, Colombo 7. Swedish–British documentary film ‘Searching for Sugar Man’ which was done to find out whether the rumoured death of American musician Sixto Rodriguez was true, and, if not, to discover what had become of him will be screened at 4 pm and 8 pm on August 14.
Directed and written by Malik Bendjelloul, the documentary details the efforts of two Cape Town fans in the late 1990s, Stephen ‘Sugar’ Segerman and Craig Bartholomew Strydom into mission to find musician Rodriguez. Rodriguez ‘s music, which never took off in the United States, had become wildly popular in South Africa, but little was known about him there.
In 2013 the film won the BAFTA Award for Best Documentary at the 66th British Academy Film Awards in London and the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature at the 85th Academy Awards in Hollywood. ‘Love Songs’ French film directed by Christophe Honoré will be screened at 6 pm and 8 pm on August 21.
On August 28, a film screening organised by Rev. Fr. Theodar Warnakulasuriya will be held at 4 pm while 2007 American epic drama film ‘There Will be Blood’ written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson will be screened at 8 pm.
