Smart deaf and dumb toddler needs help for operation
Little Yasiru who celebrates his third birthday today, August 10 cannot hear or speak. Yet he is a clever little boy and has a very good memory, says his mother K.L.H Dayawathie who had come with Yasiru all the way from Embilipitiya to the Wijeya Newspapers office to seek assistance.
Yasiru is her only child and it was only a week after he was born that she realised he had a hearing problem as he did not respond to loud noises. Daya who says she gained strength to cope with her situation after listening to Buddhist sermons on “Neth FM” radio is hoping to raise funds for an operation to be conducted at the Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital (LRH).
“My husband Suresh does casual work as a mason. The cost of the operation is Rs.2,800,000 and will be performed by Dr. K.D.R.A. Kirihena, Consultant ENT Surgeon, LRH.
The Wickremarachchi Institute of Speech and Hearing (WISH) has certified the estimated cost of the Cochlear Implant. Yasiru has already been fitted with two hearing aids but they don’t help him to hear well,” she says.
They have already collected Rs. 10 lakhs (including three lakhs from the President’s Fund) and need another Rs 18 lakhs.
Daya requests kind donors to send in any contribution to raise funds for the operation to help Yasiru hear again. The account number is 245-2-001-2-0049307 (K.L.H.Dayawathi) at People’s Bank, Godakavela.
