Sujeewa’s six sees Star Lanka Shipping through
Star Lanka Shipping entered the semi-finals in a spectacular fashion when Sujeeva Sampath hit a towering six off the last delivery which
spurred them to a heart stopping two wickets win over Brandix in the ongoing, 4th Stafford Motor Co. “Honda” Challenge Trophy, MCA “G” Division 25 Over League Tournament quarter-finals, concluded last week-end.
The other semi-finalists were Assetline Leasing, Toll Global and LB Finance “B”.
On Saturday, Assetline Leasing advanced to the semis, beating Amana Bank in the “bowl-out” contest in the morning.
In the afternoon, Toll Global chasing a challenging target of 164 runs in 25 overs (RPO 6.56) set up by Nippon Paint, went pell-mell towards it, expecting rain and keeping a breast with the asking run- rate, achieved it in the sixteenth over with eight wickets in hand.
Toll Global skipper, Jude Dilon carried his bat out with a hurricane 61 not out in 43 balls inclusive of three sixes and seven fours, well supported by R. Sanjeeva (47) and Dhaham Liyanage (35 not out).
Earlier on, Nippon Paint, sent into bat, finished with 163/7 in 25 overs, anchored by a 85 runs stand for the sixth wicket by the inform batsman Heshan de Silva (56 not out in 48 balls with three hits over the ropes and six fours) and N. Kaushalya (45).
On Sunday, the formidable LB Finance “B” team flexed their muscle with a crushing 84 runs win over Lankem Ceylon.
Right arm leg spinner, Lakshan Rodrigo, bamboozled the Lankem batsmen, snapping up 5 for 16 in three overs, as Lankem crashed to 120 in 20 overs in reply to LB Finance mammoth total of 204 in 24.5 overs.
