Western Warriors and Southern Sharks in strong position
Western Warriors, and Southern Sharks were in a strong position to book their berths to the Finals at the time of going to press at the Carlton Super Rugby sevens 2014 which took place at the BOI Rugby grounds in Koggala yesterday. Rugby was in top order with some forty plus overseas players, along with the some local talent, dished out some Champagne rugby for the packed house at Koggala.
At the time of going to the press Western warriors led by Yoshitha Rajapakse, and Southern Sharks led by Srinarth Sooriyabandara were set for the kill in the finals after their impressive first day’s wins in their group encounters.
On day two Central Kings outclassed North Western Blacks 38-7 while Yoshitha led Western Warriors edged out Eastern Eagles.
Later on in the evening Southern Sharks were too hot to handle when they over ran the much fancied Central King 28-7. Southern Sharks edged out North Central Typhoons 17-12 in their first game of the second day. Points collected in Koggala will be carried forward for the second leg in Colombo next week-end. These two sevens outings will be very vital for the local players in order prepare to for the Asian Rugby Sevens which will be held in Hong Kong later this month.
