Proud to be drug-free’ said the slogan emblazoned on their t’shirts and it was a message that the enthusiastic participants who turned up in their hundreds at the Sri Lanka Anti-Narcotics Association’s annual Health Run last Sunday were proud to proclaim.

SLANA’s Health Run has been an annual feature for over 20 years having seen the likes of international celebrities like Aishwarya Rai, then Miss World flagging off the Run. This year Indian actress Pooja Umashankar and former Miss Sri Lanka Stephanie Siriwardena were there to lend their support and encourage the young and not so young, the athletes, fitness fanatics, the differently abled, the veterans and the kids who had come to take part and make the event a success.

The starting point this year was the Independence Arcade, a change from Galle Face, and under the watchful eye of the Police, the event was completed in style, another great effort in SLANA’s continuing mission to promote a drug-free society.

Running for a cause: The young, the not so young, fitness fanatics etc
