Construction work upto 90 metres of 350 metre ‘Lotus Tower’ completed
The 350 metre high, 11-storied tower called ‘Lotus Tower’ is now under construction in a rapid pace with the strict supervision of the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (TRC), a top official said.
TRC Director-General Anusha Pelpita told the Business Times that construction work upto 90 metres of the tower has been completed with the whole structure to be completed by June next year.
He noted that he is personally monitoring the construction work by visiting the site twice weekly. The total cost will be in the region of US$104 million which will be funded by the Exim Bank of China, he disclosed.
A Chinese conglomerate comprising China National Electronics Import and Export Corporation (CEIEC) and Aerospace Long-March International Trade Co. Ltd (ALIT) has undertaken the project on a turnkey basis.
Concept and preliminary design was done by local experts, he said.
According to Mr. Pelpita, the Lotus Tower is set to be the 19th tallest tower in the world and the tallest tower in South Asia, constructed on 3.06 hectares.
He disclosed that it will consist of a four storeys’ high podium with a telecommunication museum, fast food courts, offices, exhibition halls, and conference hall.
It will also have a five star luxury hotel, a revolving restaurant which could accommodate 600 customers, and a banquet hall, which could accommodate over a thousand guests at a time.
The multi-faceted tower will provide facilities for 50 television service providers, 50 broadcasting service providers and 10 telecommunication providers.
