‘Adaraneeya Kathawak’ completes shooting
View(s):‘Adaraneeya Kathawak’ (A Melody of Love) a musical movie directed by Priyantha Colambage has completed its shooting with final scenes filmed at a beautiful location in Belihuloya, Balangoda recently. Most of the shooting in this fourth directorial venture of award winning filmmaker Priyantha was done in Colombo and is undergoing its post-production at this stage.
With nine songs, the film with a tragic love story is played by a host of young and talented stars including former Miss Sri Lankan Aruni Rajapaksa, Bimal Jayakody, Udari Warnakulasuriya and Hemal Ranasinghe.
The story of a young musician couple, the film is to unravel their relationship which goes beyond an ordinary love. Abhimana Jayawardena is a young singer who is ready to help young and aspiring musicians. He comes across Piyawi a talented singer at a reality show where he is a judge. Abhimana is impressed by her talent and believes that this girl will go up to the final round. Hailing from a remote village, Piyawi aims to win the reality show is to get the prize money to spend on her ailing father. Unexpectedly she is dropped from the talent show. Everybody including Piyawi thinks that Abhimana is responsible for this but he too is confused at to why she had been dropped.
Shattered by all the dreams to win the reality show and help her father, Piyawi returns to the village. But Abhimana who comes to know that he is being misunderstood goes in search of Piyawi and this leads to a new journey in their lives but ends in tragedy.
Produced by Chaminda Gamage and Priyantha Colambage for C2 Creations its screenplay is written by Uwani Chamika and Priyantha Colambage and camera for ‘Adareenaya Kathawak’ is handled by Ruwan Costa. Internationally renowned musician Chitral Somapala for the first time joins playback singing while Amal Perera, Kasun Kalhara, Uresha Ravihari, Amila Perera and Kushani Sandarekha do the other singing. Young musician Udara Samaraweera directs the music while Nalin Prematillake does make up and Manjula Ayagama- theatre direction.
Internationally acclaimed for his previous films like “Dehena”(Trance), in which he set a new record in Sri Lankan cinema by becoming the youngest film director, Priantha has three previous films to his credit. Made in 1998, ‘Dehena’ his directorial debut, won the highest number of awards in Sri Lanka and represented Sri Lanka at the Tokyo International Film Festival.
His second film “Vimukthi”(Salvation) was the unanimous choice of local film critiques to represent Sri Lanka at the Kerala, Milwelly and Cairo International Film Festivals and his third “Arumosam Vehi” (Fancy Rains) won rave reviews.
