The International Film Festival of Colombo (IFFColombo), a historical achievement in the country’s cinema and a golden opportunity to all Sri Lankan cinema lovers to experience a real international film festival will kick off from September 2-7.

Among the latest additions to the festival ‘A Glimpse of Our Cinema; an IFFCOLOMBO exhibition held in association with the Government Film Unit, National Film Corporation and National Film Archives was announced and it will be open to the public from September 2 to 7 at National Film Archive, Independence Avenue, Colombo from 10.00AM to 6.00PM. The exhibition is an opportunity to glance back at the progression of Sri Lankan Cinema through time and a celebration of its pivotal moments.

Organised by the Film Directors Guild of Sri Lanka in association with the ‘Okinawa International Movie Festival’ in Japan which provide Yen 10 million to hold a festival in Colombo. Divided into nine categories which include the Juliette Binoche retrospective, Michelangelo Antonioni retrospective, Spanish female directors, Sri Lankan new currents, Sri Lankan diaspora films, NETPAC winners, Okinawa Category, official selections and children’s movies in more than 70 films selected from countries like France, India, UK, US, China, Germany, Nepal, Israel and Switzerland. Offering a worldwide cultural experience to the Sri Lankan audience, the selection also includes African, Caribbean and Latin American films. The festival will be held at the leading theatres in Colombo including Regal Cinema Colombo (the main theatre), Majestic Cinemas (Ultra), Empire – (Independence Square Arcade), Thararangani Cinema and Goethe Institute theatre.

In the retrospective section, the IFF Colombo will feature legendary Italian film director Michelangelo Antonioni and international super star Juliette Binoche with special screenings of their films. Entrance for the festival is free-of-charge and Free Festival Passes can be collected from IFFC office at Room 12, Sri Lanka Foundation (Independence Square) or National Film Corporation (Reception).  Festival schedule, venues and other details on the film festival on IFFColombo 2014 can be obtained from www.iffcolombo.com.
