How we use time

What is happening in the world today? So many conflicts. In the Middle East, there is conflict between Israel and Palestine, another happening in Iraq. If we take a look at the Far East tensions are flaring up between North Korea and its neighbours. In the recent past Sri Lanka had its own problems.

The normal working class barely has enough time available to be with their families let alone spare time for all the propaganda that such conlifts give rise to . What is clear is that there are those who have lots of free time/resources on their hands with no clear idea of what to do with it and who are easily susceptible to external influences.

Naturally we are unable to change the way world thinks, to get ourselves involved in global politics and power struggles. But we can start from a bottom up approach. Let’s start with our own communities, educate ourselves on what is actually happening around us, the people who hold the strings and think about the long term outcomes of our actions. Sri Lanka is still far from being developed.

Many regions in the country still don’t have basic facilities needed for survival. Unemployment and the cost of living is on the rise, so much crime and corruption have left many people helpless and destitute. We have to ask ourselves: Is increasing our focus, efforts and resources on news about destruction the correct approach? There is also those who have given up trying to change believing their efforts would just be in vain and what has to happen will happen anyway. To them I say, stand up, let’s give it our best. Even in a small way let’s try to do something productive. Something that will benefit someone. It might not bear fruit in this lifetime, but it might create a better future for our children or our children’s children.
