Import of 1000 cc motorbikes awaits Gazette notification
View(s):The Motor Traffic Department (MTD) is awaiting Treasury approval to issue a Gazette notification permitting the import of high powered motorcycles ranging in engine capacity from 450 cc to 1001 cc, officials said.
The Cabinet last month approved the import of high capacity bikes after payment of applicable duties and taxes, and registration with the MTD.
Earlier the import of high powered bikes was allowed only for sports activities and training purposes.
Meanwhile, the decision to allow the import of high powered bikes into the country, has raised fresh security concerns, as the traffic police have bikes only up to 600 cc.
