Shamal, Asel guide Ananda to emerge champions
Ananda College emerged Schools Under-15 Division I champions when they defeated St. Sebastian’s College by 5 wickets in the final played at the R. Premadasa Stadium yesterday.
Half tons by Shamal Hirushan and Asel Sigera who together put on a third wicket partnership of 78 runs laid the foundation for Ananda’s victory. Ananda in pursuit of 212 runs for victory reached the required target in the 48th over.
Shamal made a knock of 65 with eight boundaries and a six while Asel’s contribution was 62 which comprised five boundaries and a six.
St. Sebastian’s winning the toss and electing to take first lease of the wicket, made a modest score of 210 for 6 in their allotted 50 overs in the morning session of play.
St. Sebastian’s score came on the back of a fine knock of 50 by Nuwanindu Fernando which was supported by useful contributions from Nishitha Abilash, Manthila Wijeratne and Tharusha Fernando.
