My cute brothers
I have two cute brothers. They are Adeeb and Aaqil.
Adeeb is three years old and Aaqil is just five months old. Adeeb is very active and he plays with me. He shares everything with me. He can sing very well.
My baby brother sleeps most of the time. He smiles at me when I speak to him. I want him to grow big soon. Then I can play with both my brothers. They are my best friends too. I love my brothers a lot.

Environment

Green surrounding
Light blue sky
Trees providing shelter
Skylarks fly

Over the edges
Verge of mountains
Away from hedges
Elegant fountains

Children running
To and fro
Happiness flooding
Dawn to dusk

Watch the night
Stars twinkling
What a sight
Planets blinking?

Why I like school holidays

We get school holidays three times a year, at the end of every term. After studying hard in school during the term, I wait eagerly till I get my holidays.
What I like most about school holidays is that I don’t have to get up early in the morning to get ready to go to school. I can sleep a little longer.
I can also stay up a little longer without going to bed early at night.
During the holidays I have a lot of fun playing with my friends. We play many games. I like to read storybooks and watch cartoons on television. My hobby is reading and during the holidays I have a lot of time to read my favourite storybooks.
I like the holidays because I can go on trips with my parents. I can go and visit my relations and friends. I can visit places of interest and learn many things. I can do all these things, so that is why I like the holidays very much.

How I decorated cupcakes

During the August holidays, my mother enrolled me for a cupcake decorating class conducted by Mrs. Nipuni Sangakkara. At 9 a.m.,
I was dropped at her house. She helped us in some parts and showed us how
to do it alone.
We made Santa’s face, a snowman, Christmas trees, a girl’s face, an Easter chick and a puppy. She taught us how to make these six things with fondant and butter-cream. Halfway through, she gave us a cupcake and Fanta to drink. I tasted a little bit of butter-cream that was on my finger and it was tasty.
I met one of my classmates from school. She is Sarika. I also made new friends there.
I enjoyed myself very much and I loved the cupcakes.

Expressway to Yala

We left home at eight in the morning and I was so excited.
It took seven hours to reach Yala, because we had a flat tyre. Finally we got to Matara and dad got the tyre fixed with a patch. After that it took two and a half hours to reach JetwingYala.
In Yala there is very little water, so the park was very dry, even the places that had water are now dried up. The animals walk around searching for water. I saw an elephant going to the sea to drink water from it. That’s how thirsty he was! We went on an afternoon safari and I saw many peacocks, but they didn’t fan their tails. I also saw peahens, a hog, a sloth bear, a kingfisher and a cute little baby leopard sitting on a tree. That was a great safari! Yala is good to visit. It is fun.
Jetwing Yala is very peaceful.
It has a wonderful view of the sea, and the beach is so clean. The food is absolutely delicious. There is a very relaxing pool, a library and a small café too. Most of the time, I was sitting on the hammock playing with my ipad. We stayed there for three nights and I was very sad when we checked out because it was such a pleasant stay.

Dinosaurs
Dinosaurs lived on earth about
300 million years ago. They were reptiles. They had backbones, scaly skin and laid eggs. They walked on straight legs tucked underneath their bodies. They lived on land.
Some dinosaurs were herbivores. They ate plants. They had small heads and long necks. They lived in groups. They swallowed stones which helped to crush the food inside their stomachs and make digestion easier.
Some were carnivores. They ate meat and fish. They had big heads and short necks. They had sharp teeth. They did not live in big groups.
There were other dinosaurs, who had a mixed diet. They ate both meat and plants. They were omnivores.
The giant plant eating dinosaurs were the largest animals to walk on earth. The dinosaur, Ultrasaurus was as tall as a six-storey
building.
The dinosaurs died out because of the change in the climate and environment due to the Ice Age.
Scientists study the fossils and find out all about these animals; their shape, size, what they ate and how and why they died. The fossil hunters collect the bones and the
scientists build up the dinosaur
skeletons in the museums, so that we may gain some knowledge about these prehistoric animals.

Things I enjoy doing
I am a 14-year old girl. My name is Shinie. I enjoy doing many things. But I enjoy most helping my beloved mother. I help her in the garden and the kitchen. She has green fingers and gardening is her hobby. I help her in watering the plants and removing weeds. I also assist her in changing the soil in the pots and manuring the flower beds. In the morning I pluck flowers from our garden for her prayer and pooja session. She is a religious and devout lady.
In the kitchen I help her in
preparing morning breakfast, evening tea and meals on Sundays. It gives me great joy and satisfaction to help her in whatever way I can. But it’s never at the expense of my lessons and studies. Because of the blessings of my dear mother and my hard work, I always get excellent results and grades.

My trip to Anuradhapura
During the April holidays I went to Anuradhapura with my father, brother, grandparents, Uncle Ravi and Aunty Tryphena. We stayed at the Heritage Hotel. We reached the hotel at night.
In the morning, we ate
breakfast and went sightseeing. We saw Ruwanweliseya. It was huge. We saw three temples. Then we saw an ice-cream truck. So we got down and ate ice-cream.
We saw a snake wrapped around a man.
Then we parked the vehicle and went to see a museum. We got
tickets and went inside the
museum. I saw old books, old coins and different old drums, a bed made of deer skin, deer horns, pots, old guns, old saris, old jewellery,
a model of an old kitchen and many more historical things.
Outside the museum we saw another model of an old hut.
There was a kitchen and a small space for visitors. Inside the hut there were man-made people. After sightseeing we went back to the Heritage Hotel and went for a swim in the pool.
After that we had lunch and got ready to go back home. I was sad to leave Anuradhapura but I enjoyed the trip.
