Another theatrical attempt by box-office breaking playwright
Following the record breaking success of ‘Balloth Ekka Behe’ young playwright Ravindra Ariyaratne has released his second theatrical production “Charithe Horu Aran”- Comedy of Darkness.
Sure to be another hit following its premier last week, the show is already booked for next year. A star-studded cast including Kumara Thirimadura, Gihan Fernando, Sarath Kothalawala, Chamila Peiris, Ferny Roshani, Wasantha Vittachchi, Ravindra Ariyarathne and Susanga Kahandawalaarachchi play in ‘Charitha Horu Aran’ while Sandasiri Adhikari handles the music, Llewellin Vanderwall set designs, Susanga Kahadawalaarachchi and Sumedha Prasanna’s stage management, Mihindu Madhushanka the lighting equipment and Shiran Nalaka Kumara the lighting effects. ‘Charithe Horu Aran” is produced and organised by Jude Srimal.
“My first play ‘Balloth Ekka Behe’ was named as a comedy of errors and disguise and this play is titled comedy of darkness. This is mainly because it carries qualities of black humour or ‘gallows humour’ described by Sigmund Freud,” says Ravindra describing his new play. “The play revolves around power and how different people react to it,” Ariyarantne is a mass communication graduate from University of Kelaniya and a producer at the Government Film Unit said.
The next show of the play will be on September 14 (Sunday) at 3.30 p.m and 7.00 p.m at Lionel Wendt Theatre, Colombo 07 and tickets are available at the Lionel Wendt Theatre.
