Now SLC Vice President protests
View(s):Sri Lanka Cricket Vice President Mohan de Silva has strongly objected to its president Jayantha Dharmadasa on himself trying to take total control of the institution’s press releases.
De Silva was referring to a mail sent by Dharmadasa to the SLC Chief Executive Officer Ashley de Silva wherein Dharmadasa has stated that all clarifications and press releases should have his prior approval. He feels that it should be the executive committe who should decide what clarifications or press releases should be made on behalf of Sri Lanka Cricket.
He protests that some sections of the media are trying to vilify some of the SLC Exco members and they even reproduce confidential documents released to the members of the Executive Committee by the President. He claims that this type of action by any individual cannot be condoned as it brings not only the targeted individual but the whole Executive committee to disrepute and the SLC Exco become the laughing stock in the eyes of the public.
He also has urged Dharmadasa to initiate an inquiry or invite the CID to carry out investigations to bring the culprits to book as the reputation of the whole Committee as well as Sri Lanka Cricket, the National Association for Cricket, is at stake. The SLC Vice President says that he wishes to draw Dharmadasa’s attention to the letter he tabled at the Executive Committee to all members and says that they did not have time to study the letter carefully at that time in the midst of many subjects that were being discussed and brings in three pointers. –
1. All of us agreed that the smooth functioning of the SLC was a pre requisite to win the World Cup 2015 and therefore to follow the SLC Constitution to the fullest as long as the recommendations are consistent with the Constitution.
2. However, item number two of your letter states that: All the Committees mentioned therein will be reconstituted to streamline the process to implement the requirements of the Constitution.
3. Under item number 3, of your letter the second paragraph states “As per section 13 (d) (iv) of the Constitution, (the) CEO shall not be an Office Bearer or a Member of a Committee of any Member Club or Association. As per legal advice obtained on the above subject this will be applicable to all staff”.
De Silva says item three clearly contravenes with the SLC constitution.
