Zahira College Matale emerge U-17 Inter-School Soccer Champions
View(s):Zahira College Matale beat Kimbissa Maha Vidyalaya, Sigiriya by 2 goals to one in the final to emerge Champions at the Matale District Under 17 Inter School Football Championship 2014 concluded last Friday at Bernard Aluvihare Stadium in Matale.
M R M Shibly and Sameen Imtiyas booted a goal each for the Champions while Sanjeewa scored the loser’s solitary goal. M. Prabaharan refereed.
In the run up to the final Zahira beat St. Thomas’ Matale 4-0 and then outplayed fancied Ajmir National School Ukuwela 2-1 in the semi-final.
The tournament conducted by Sri Lanka School Football Association together with Matale Schools Football Association saw seven schools namely St. Thomas’, Hindu, Zahira and Royal English from Matale, Dambulla Maha Vidyalaya, Kimbissa MV Sigiriya and Ajmir N.S. Ukuwela taking part.
Zahira College Matale has now qualified from Matale District to contest in the all island schools under 17 Football Championship 2014 to be held shortly.
