Sri Lankan footwear exports double in 2013, CCC study shows
View(s):Sri Lankan manufactured ‘Footwear’ exports have doubled during the year 2013, compared to what was exported in 2012, a new study conducted by the Ceylon Chamber has found, while the trend is expected to continue during 2014, as well, the study reveals.
A media release from the chamber said that according to the study, titled ‘Footwear Exports and Imports of Sri Lanka -Statistical Analysis’ and which covers the periods of 2006 to 2013, Australia and Italy rank as the main export markets for Sri Lankan footwear.
The analysis also shows that China is the leading exporter of footwear to the Sri Lankan market accounting for 41 per cent of the total footwear imports made by the country in 2013. India follows with an 18 per cent share.
Sri Lanka imported footwear for a value of Rs. 3.2 billion last year, a 30 per cent increase from 2012 imports.
