ARFU appoints Dilroy as CMO

The Asian Rugby Football Union (ARFU) has appointed Dilroy Fernando as Coach of Match Officials (CMO) for the Asian Games Rugby in Incheon, South Korea which will be held from September 28 to October 2. Fernando’s appointment at the 17th Asian Games follows the assignment he completed as CMO at the Asian Sevens Series held in Malaysia on September 6 and 7.

He has also been appointed as Referee Manager for the ARFU Under-19 Junior World Rugby Tournament games to be played in Sri Lanka form September 21 to 28. He will be the Referees’ Manager for the first four games before his departure for the Asian Games.

After Fernando’s departure to South Korea, Vimal Perera will take over as Referee Manager for the last two games and also be the CMO for two of the first four games. Shamrath Fernando and Anil Jayasinghe have been appointed as CMOs for the remaining four games.
Local match official Irshad Cader will be the only referee to handle games and is appointed to control the opening match between Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong at the Racecourse ground in Colombo. He will also referee the last game of the tournament between Hong Kong and Korea which is expected to be a close call.

ARFU panel referees Maurice Bulter from the United Arab Emirates and Tim Baker from Hong Kong will be the other two match officials. ARFU has also appointed Priyantha Gunartne from Sri Lanka as an Assistant Referee for this tournament.
