Nalanda College beat Prince of Wales College by a solitary goal to emerge under 15 champions of the Western Province hockey tournament

After the change of ends, in the 30th minute of the game, Nalanda’s centre half Ravindu Pabhasara found the gap in the Cambrian defence and centre half Jeevantha Prasanna was positioned to shoot the winning goal.

While Nalanda won the Dennis Rosairo Trophy, Prince of Wales carried away the A.K. Suppiah Challenge Trophy.

Of the special awards that were up for grabs, Dineth Hashan of Prince of Wales carried away the award for the best goal keeper, while Jeewantha Prasanna and H. Keheliya both of Nalanda were adjudged the best striker (forward) and the best defender respectively.

D.S. Senanayake College had to settle for third place in the Western Province hockey tournament when they defeated Dharmaloka Vidyalaya, Kelaniya by three goals to two in the play off for the third place at Shalika ground on Friday. At the short whistle the tally was 2-1 in favour of Dharmaloka.

In the very first minute of play, Upul Dulanjaya of Dharmaloka put his side one up, but in the very next minute Abdul Rahman equalized for D.S. Senanayake. In the 8th minute of the game, Dharmaloka took the lead once again when R. Kavindu scored a field goal.

After the change of ends, Induwara Thilakaratna scored a field goal to equalize for D.S. Senanayake and four minutes later Yasith Rashmina fired the winner to give his team a 3-1 win.

The A.K. Suppiah Challenge Trophy was awarded to Musaeus College.

F. Sammani of Musaeus College won the award for the best defender. The best striker (forward) was Dilini Subashini and the best goal keeper was Hiruni Navodya both of Janadhipathi.

Gothami BV beat Bishops
to win consolation

Gothami Balika Vidyalaya defeated Bishops College by two goals to nil to win the consolation final of the under 15 Western Province hockey tournament at Shalika ground last Friday. At half time Gothami led 1-0.

In the 12th minute of the game, Thashmi Navodya opened the scoring for Gothami and after the turn around, she got her stick onto the ball to give her side their second goal and victory.
